in the temple

Catheine Bagnall and Jane Sayle

Published by Massey University Press, 13 October 2023, RRP: $35.00

Two years after their first acclaimed collaboration On We Go, artist Catherine Bagnall and poet Jane Sayle have returned to their contemplation of nature within the context of the feminine sublime.

Published by Massey University Press as an exquisite small-format hardback in October, In the Temple explores intense personal connections with the natural world. The book’s 26 poems and 21 watercolours transport the reader into a realm of private ritual and explores the power and meaning of special places.

The pages of in the temple conjure a dreamy, mythological world of enchanted places with powerful and intangible connections to other living beings and to history. It is a gem of a book to return to again and again.

With this book the authors bring solace in a time of seismic changes. ‘Arguably the world has always been in a rough state for many, or most, people. Today is for the living though and how to meet the challenges of that with grace and energy is the thing . . . to console a stranger would be an honour,’ say Bagnall and Sayle.
